I decided to do a self portrait photo collection (9-12 photos) with my story booklet.

while every photo is taken by me and the main character of each photo is me, each photo shows a different kind of me.

The photo might show in a 3-leaf photo screen ordered from market which could stand inside the box.

That day, when I first entered to the classroom, I could smell the ominous premonition stemmed from the turbid, damp atmosphere. Trying to ignore the symptom of chest tightness, I pressed my heart and comforted myself that I would be right. However, it was manifest that I could not breathe well as my frequency of breathing was significantly increasing. Therefore, I decided to quit all lessons and find my doctor.

“You are taking too serious on your work.” Yeah, that was how my doctor explained to me. 2 weeks before, I stressed myself and worked until morning for 2 days with 3 hours of sleep per day, which gave a heavy work load to my heart. Wait, I know you might also work all day long for numerous weeks but you have never been through this. That is why I am special. With a long history of illness, I discovered that my body would be weaken whenever I had a strong emotions. For instance, I would have a stun if I got really angry. And this time, my pressure flood all my veins.

Where my pressure came from? Well, let’s start from the most obvious cause. Time.

Other than a creative media student, I am a flute, mandarin teacher, an IT in charge and graphic designer for 2 community centers, a freelance designer and a vice-chairman of a non-profit making flute ensemble organization – Gavotte Flute Ensemble(GFE). Yeah, I know the large amount of identities make me seem like an octopus. What will happen if all the jobs collide with each other? It was what exactly happened 2 weeks before. I was handling an application system changing project, all promotion designs of a flag day and 10^th anniversary activities, which included all posters, the flag, booklets, etc. What was more, I also needed to design the pull-up banner, business card and the change of the old application form in a week for a public performance of GFE. And do not forget that I am also a student who also needed to work on academic papers, design proposals and programming works. Obviously, it was an impossible mission to finish it all within a week. Limited time became an immense challenge

I might not admit myself as a perfectionist but I always push myself to do the best. In the design industry of Hong Kong, it is not difficult to work with the clients who know nothing about how to promote their message efficiently and still want to control what you design. I, as a designer, always try to find the best balance between the commands from clients and my design beliefs. For example, the flag design. I was being told to design the flag as heart-shape. Oh my god! Heart-shape is no different from the fake usable floor area stated in the booklet by the land agent. Although it looks great, heat-shaped can never deliver the message well with the tiny rectangular area in the center. On top of that, they also embraced a vain hope that it could contain 2 logos, 2 names and a bible sentence in such area! In order to persuade them to forgo the use of heart-shaped and the bible sentence, I designed 2 kinds of flags to magnify the weakness of heart-shaped. Here I am, I would stress, force and compel myself to think out of the box and do out of my limit whenever I design. That is how I work.

I completely understand what would happen to my health if I continue to stay in this way. However, the identities generated chances and my belief prompted improvements. They are the one who depicts who am I today, which is the reason why I am not going to change. This is me.

A Li Shan

A Li Shan

Trying to reach the top of A Li Shan, the famous mountain in Taiwan, I got on a van which was driven by the son of the village head. The endless golden rice field just like the background of Microsoft windows shone its light riotously through the window of the van. Although it is the most common view in rural area of Taiwan, I screamed and surprised on its beauty, kept "Wowing" and took numerous photos to record its beauty. After passing through the rice field the son of the village head said the rangy Areca that the aboriginal loves the most symbolized the foot of the A Li Shan.

Suddenly, a mist was snaking around the swirling, narrow road gradually with a light drizzle and becoming a mysterious maze which blocked all my sights from the van. "The thick mist and rain is very usual in the middle of the mountains with such height, it will be fine" the driver smiled while I was worrying about the unexpected change of weather would destroy my hope for watching sunset. After listening to the comfort sound from the driver, my tensioned heart and shoulder were started to relax. Then I focused on the view again. However, houses and tea fields were the only thing that I could barely see. I was curious on the reason why people would live in a place with such uncertain weather which might actually be extremely dangerous.

Receiving signals from the sun, we passed through the mist and continued the trip. After reaching the top of the valley I noticed that the sun was going to set. Being reflected by the distant, giant buildings in the city, the lights created a new sea level with its orange-red fire and glowed all over the sky with the enthusiasm from the nature. While the angels also wanted to join the party, they leaked their transparent rays through the chinks of the clouds and blessed the people who lived in the valley.

The car then stopped in a much higher place. The scene that I saw when I got off the car was too stunning which made me hardly to believe. In the middle of 2 tree trunks  was fully crowded with the cotton candy liked clouds which floated calmly as the waves of a warm sea. Since it was so closed that I was yearned for touching and embracing, I ran down a little bit by chasing the golden lights emitted by the sunset and searched for a wider view. The sunset dyed the cotton candy liked clouds into orange-red, then purple until the night came. I was sitting in front of the scene, staring into the clouds, enjoying the fresh breath and the peace it brought to my soul. Silent. Please be silent.

According to thefreedictionary.com, analogue also means "An organ or structure that is similar in function to one in another kind of organism but is of dissimilar evolutionary origin". For instance, The gill of a fish and the lung of a cat.Where both of them are using as the same function: to breathe, they have totally different appearance.

Just like the painting, although every drawings are based on the same photo, the use of different colors shows the different emotions of the Marilyn Monroe.

The use of the same photo is a show of analogue. 

Proposal 

All human beings  show different personalities and emotions which are all structured by DNA. With the using of identical materials(e.g. papers, thread) , I decided to create 4 different faces with 4 different emotions (delight, angry, sorrow and laugh) to imitate the situation stated above and praise to the magic of life. 

Why I don't write

Writing is always being claimed as a tool use to express your stand or sometimes fight for justice as a weapon. However, being as a student, like me, although I love writing, it is difficult for me to take courage for the very first step.

"I don't write" does not mean I hate writing a lot. Through the course of Asian literature, writing comparison essay and journals help me to express myself as a reader and also an individual person. It also helps me to realize what is the difference between English and Chinese in terms of writing and how should I develop my essay which is very useful in academic writing.

However, writing is more than passion. After writing some essays and papers, I discovered that I have a very serve problem in grammar and use of words when I write, which should be learned in secondary school. It simply dampens my enthusiasm on writing as there is no person who could help me to compensate my problems after secondary school even though I want to since all the students are supposed to be prepared before entering university. Moreover, when I noticed that even though I was willing to write other than academic paper, I could find no one to correct my papers for numerous time only for improving my writing personally. Although it is manifest that it might be the most effective way to improve my writing, it might also be a heavy work and an unreasonable ask for instructors. Therefore, it becomes a common vicious circle which might not be my own harassment.

"I love writing but it frustrated me every time I write." I was the best sample of the sentence and I believed I am not the only one who would say the same.

"Balloon:"

"Balloon" is the most impressive product in all of our class. The concept of the product tries to act a choice of  risk and opportunity through a balloon and a needle. I could see some of our classmate was afraid of the explosion of the balloon or accepted the explosion of the balloon or tried to find the rules of the game through observation as me. It was a simple tricks but it brought out a fantastic reactions. However, I thought the performance was missing climax. When the performance went on, I was kept finding what is next. All in all, it was a good interactive performance.

"Color"

"Color is another performing artwork work which aims to express different emotions of human through body languages, colors of footprints due to the motion and the mood of the music. The performance will be better if they actually dance in the paper and focus more on the movements of the foot. For instance, they could do sliding, jumping or laying on the paper. Then the picture could become a action capture rather than just the footprint in the paper. Maybe they could add some hand prints which represent the emotions from hands too. Moreover, I definitely thought it was a great idea just lack of some executions.
